UCAS has announced that students will have a second opportunity to apply for university courses in 2025 through its UCAS Extra service.
This programme runs from February 26 to July 4, and offers students who have not yet secured an offer from their original five university choices the chance to apply for an additional course.
UCAS Extra is intended for those who either did not receive offers or declined their initial offers.
Students can now apply for a sixth university course using this service, which gives them more flexibility after the first round of decisions.
How UCAS Extra works
To apply, students must search for available courses through the UCAS platform, filtering for options that show vacancies. They should also reach out to universities directly to confirm that they are willing to consider their application.
It is important for students to review the entry requirements of new courses carefully, especially if they are considering switching to a related or alternative subject.
Once students have selected a course, they can submit their application through their UCAS portal. If they do not hear back from universities within three weeks, they can either wait or choose another course.
Universities have until July 17 to respond, but students can continue adding additional choices if they are not accepted or decline an offer.
Key dates and considerations
For students who did not use all five of their initial application choices, they can simply add a new course without needing to go through UCAS Extra, provided it is before June 30.
If students do not receive the offer they were hoping for through UCAS Extra, they can apply through Clearing starting July 5.
