HYDERABAD:

An impressive array of innovative projects, including boats, musical instruments, chimes, fuel production models, and scientific postcards, created by students of classes six to eight, were showcased at the STEAM Muqablo exhibition held at a government school in Latifabad Unit 6, Hyderabad, on Saturday. The event was jointly organised by the Sindh Education Department and the STEAM Policy Unit Sindh.

The term STEAM stands for science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics and so was reflected by the models presented by 588 students and 153 teachers of 54 schools. The exhibition, Muqbalo, featured an array of innovative models, including 54 floating devices, 53 musical instruments, 52 postcards, and 51 mathematics and science models, as well as themes addressing climate change, urban development, and technology.

A panel of 24 teachers from Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET), Sindh University, Iqra University, GC University Hyderabad, Virtual University, National Incubation Centre Hyderabad, Systems Ltd, and Mixeal evaluated the projects. Notably, the students crafted musical instruments from recycled materials like old keys, spoons, and tubes. Meanwhile, they designed load-bearing boats using coconut palm leaves, sheets, and reused plastic bottles.

"Some children don't learn through traditional studying, but rather by engaging with interactive platforms," said Deputy Director of Quality Assurance and regional STEAM focal person Asma Bhatti.
