A woman attempting a gold theft at a jewellery shop in the Banni area of Rawalpindi was caught on CCTV.

The woman, posing as a customer, stole a gold necklace worth over Rs 550,000 by subtly hiding it in her lap while pretending to organise other items in the jewellery box, Express News reported.

CCTV footage revealed her swift actions, leading the shopkeeper to file a complaint. The police utilised technology and human intelligence to trace the suspect, identified as Sadaf. She was arrested, and the stolen necklace was recovered.

The footage showed Sadaf distracting the jeweller by rearranging items, giving her a moment to pocket the necklace unnoticed. Her deceptive manoeuvre, however, was fully captured on the store’s surveillance cameras.

Authorities have confirmed the arrest and recovery.
