Former President Donald Trump is reportedly growing weary of Elon Musk’s frequent appearances at Mar-a-Lago, despite publicly lauding him as a key donor and supporter.

According to New York Times journalist Maggie Haberman, Trump has privately complained about Musk “being around a lot,” as the billionaire continues to stay at the Banyan Cottage, just steps away from Trump’s residence and transition headquarters.

Musk, who has poured over $250 million into Trump’s re-election campaign, has attended personnel meetings and even joined dinners with rival tech figures like Jeff Bezos. While Musk’s proximity has positioned him favorably in Trump’s inner circle amid tensions with grassroots MAGA loyalists, Haberman told Kara Swisher on her podcast On that the relationship is becoming strained.

Musk’s influence in policy discussions has earned him the nickname “President Musk” from some Democrats, a label that reportedly irritates Trump. “The ‘President Musk’ line was always going to be a way to get him,” Haberman said, adding that Trump’s irritation could grow once his operations move to the White House.

While Musk’s financial support grants him leverage, Trump’s inner circle, including chief of staff Susie Wiles and deputy Stephen Miller, remains more influential. Haberman noted that Musk’s assertive style is causing friction with others in Trump’s camp, describing the dynamic as “shifting sands.”

Despite the tension, Musk is likely to maintain his closeness to Trump, but Haberman predicts his access will diminish once Trump assumes office.
