Islamabad police await family's consent to conduct postmortem

The body of a German diplomat, Thomas Fielder, was recovered from his flat in the Diplomatic Enclave, within the limits of the Secretariat Police Station.

Fielder served as the Third Secretary at the German Embassy in Islamabad.

According to the police, the embassy staff visited Fielder's flat when he failed to report to work. After repeated attempts to contact him went unanswered, embassy officials authorised staff to force entry into the apartment. They discovered Fielder's lifeless body, which appeared to be in a deteriorated condition.

The body has been moved to the morgue at PIMS Hospital. However, a post-mortem examination is pending as the German embassy is seeking formal permission from Fielder's family in Germany, particularly his wife.

Initial findings

A special investigation team from the federal police inspected the scene, collecting evidence from the diplomat's residence. Police noted visible bleeding from Fielder's nose and mouth. Medical experts consulted by the investigation team suggested that these symptoms could result from complications linked to hypertension or a possible heart attack.

Sources confirmed that Fielder had a history of high blood pressure and heart-related ailments. Doctors indicated that severe hypertension could cause internal bleeding and cardiac arrest, which aligns with the symptoms observed.

German embassy officials have requested that the post-mortem be delayed until they receive formal consent from Fielder's family. The embassy has assured the federal police that they are in contact with the family and will relay instructions once permission is obtained.

Police have said they are investigating the case from all angles. The authorities have pledged to proceed with the post-mortem and further investigation as soon as clearance is granted.
