Urfan Sharif, the father convicted for the murder of his 10-year-old daughter, Sara Sharif, was reportedly attacked in Belmarsh Prison on New Year’s Day.
According to reports, Sharif, 43, was assaulted by two other inmates in his cell using a makeshift weapon.
The attack left him with cuts to his neck and face. He received medical treatment within the prison.
Sharif was jailed for life in December after being convicted at the Old Bailey for the brutal killing of Sara, who was found dead in August 2023.
The court heard that Sara had been subjected to a two-year campaign of abuse, including being beaten, hooded, and burned before her death. Sharif's wife, Beinash Batool, and his nephew, Faisal Malik, were also sentenced for their roles in the crime.
The prison assault, which occurred at the Category A Belmarsh facility in southeast London, is under investigation by the police. A Met Police spokesperson confirmed that Sharif suffered non-life-threatening injuries, and an investigation is ongoing.
A Prison Service spokesperson stated that it would be inappropriate to comment further while the investigation continues.
Sharif, along with his wife and nephew, fled to Pakistan with Sara's five siblings shortly before her body was discovered.
They were on the run for weeks before returning to the UK, where they were arrested. Sharif received a minimum of 40 years in prison for the murder of Sara, while Batool was sentenced to 33 years, and Malik was given a 16-year sentence for causing or allowing the death.
Belmarsh Prison is known for housing some of the UK's most dangerous offenders, making it a high-security facility.
