Justin Baldoni has alleged that Ryan Reynolds “aggressively berated” him over remarks made to Blake Lively on the set of their movie It Ends with Us.
The allegation was detailed in Baldoni’s recent libel lawsuit against The New York Times, which reported on sexual harassment claims made by Lively against him.
According to the lawsuit, which was reviewed by The Independent, Baldoni, 40, who directed and acted alongside Lively, 37, in the film, asked the Gossip Girl star how much she weighed before filming a scene in which he was required to lift her.
The document states that Baldoni, who experiences back issues, asked the question to “ensure he could safely perform the lift without injury.”
Reynolds, 48, allegedly misinterpreted the comment, accusing Baldoni of “fat-shaming” his wife during a confrontation at the couple’s New York City penthouse.
“The confrontation that followed was so aggressive that Baldoni felt compelled to offer repeated apologies,” the lawsuit states. “Baldoni, in an effort to avoid further confrontation with Lively and Reynolds and rebuild rapport with his co-star, continued to bend to her will.”
It is also claimed that Lively “refused to perform the lift scene” despite having previously “rehearsed with a stunt double.”
Baldoni, along with nine other plaintiffs, has filed a $250 million lawsuit against The New York Times, accusing the publication of libel and false-light invasion of privacy over its December 21 article titled: “‘We Can Bury Anyone’: Inside a Hollywood Smear Machine.”
The article extensively detailed Lively’s legal complaint against Baldoni, in which she accused him of sexual harassment and orchestrating a “smear campaign” to “destroy” her reputation after she went public with allegations of misconduct on the set of their 2024 film.
Baldoni’s lawyer, Bryan Freedman, has called Lively’s claims “false, outrageous and intentionally salacious.”
