At least 10 individuals sustained injuries during a mass shooting that occurred outside a nightclub in Queens, New York, on Wednesday night. The incident reportedly happened at around 11:20 pm near the Amazura nightclub in Jamaica.
According to the New York Police Department (NYPD), none of the injured are in critical condition, and all are expected to recover, as reported by the *New York Post*. The victims were transported to Long Island Jewish Hospital and Cohen’s Children Medical Center for medical care.
The Amazura nightclub, known for hosting DJs and live performances, had reportedly held a private party in memory of a deceased gang member who passed away last year. Approximately 80 people were waiting outside the venue to gain entry when the shooting took place, according to *AMNY News*.
Although the NYPD has yet to release an official statement about the shooting, social media posts depict a large presence of police vehicles and ambulances surrounding the area.
This mass shooting coincides with a deadly incident in New Orleans on New Year’s Day, where a U.S. Army veteran drove a pickup truck into a crowd, killing at least 15 people and injuring dozens more. The suspect, identified as 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Jabbar, was killed in a gunfire exchange with law enforcement officers.
U.S. authorities, after identifying Jabbar, confirmed that he carried an ISIS flag during what they termed an "act of terrorism."
The names of the victims in the New Orleans attack have not been officially disclosed, though at least four have been identified by relatives or close associates.
