KARACHI:

The Sindh High Court (SHC) has ordered the FIA director general to give the opportunity of personal hearing to officials facing dismissal proceedings.

The FIA DG had given a go ahead for dismissal from service after an inquiry faulted 38 immigration officials of oversight in departure of illegal immigrants who eventually died in 2023 Greece boat sinking.

The officials, through a constitutional petition, contended that these people had travelled to Libya on valid visas.

The petitioners asserted that they have been wrongly blamed for the travellers' onward illegal journey to Europe.

The SHC judge, while disposing of the petition ruled, "we have heard learned counsel for the petitioners in all these connected petitions.

Disciplinary proceedings are proceeding against all the petitioners in the listed petitions.

Learned counsels for the petitioners state that the petitioners have not been given the opportunity of being heard."

The order read that departmental proceedings being conducted by the FIA shall be carried out strictly in accordance with law and all the petitioners shall be allowed an opportunity of personal hearing before passing any adverse order.
