City cries with blood of its own citizens

From gruesome discoveries to heart-wrenching wails, city's violence has left deep scars.

The provincial capital has its streets red with the blood of its citizens all year round, as the stark reality of violence and tragedy unfolds. The Chhipa Foundation's disturbing statistics reveal a metropolis plagued by an unrelenting tide of death and destruction.

From the eerie silence of tortured bodies found in sacks, to the agonised cries of families torn apart by senseless violence, the city's landscape is forever scarred. As the clock ticks down on another year, the numbers paint a haunting picture; 356 lives lost in firing incidents, 131 claimed by electrocution, and 100 succumbing to the bitterness of suicide.

As per the welfare organisation, bandits have sent 110 citizens to sleep forever so far this year, from January one to December 27. In contrast, 21 robbers have been killed and 65 injured in retaliation by citizens.

Unexplained firing incidents in the city has claimed 356 lives, including 314 men, 28 women, nine boys and five girls. While, a total of 1,616 people have been injured in the absurd firing incidents, including 1,406 men, 109 women and 29 children and girls.

The year witnessed 33 tortured bodies, with nine found stuffed in sacks. Breaking it down, bodies found included 22 men, seven women, two boys and two girls.

Moreover, 55 people were killed in the city this year due to sharp-edged weapons, including 44 men and 11 women. Gas cylinder explosions claimed eight lives and injured 43 people in various areas of the city.

Nine people fell to their deaths from rooftops, while 45 people were killed in train accidents, and 74 people lost their lives in drowning incidents.

Burn injuries were also reported in the city, resulting in 12 fatalities and 119 injuries. Furthermore, 100 people took their own lives in suicide incidents. Additionally, 280 individuals who died from natural causes while being transported to the hospital. The city also witnessed the discovery of 29 bodies of newborns, as well as the remains of 363 drug addicts were found across the city.

This year, 131 citizens lost their lives due to electrocution. Additionally, nine people died after falling into sewers, and 14 drowned in open drains. Breaking down the incidents further, eight people fell to their deaths in manholes, comprising five men and three children.

The open drain drownings claimed the lives of nine men and five girls. The relentless toll of these tragedies has left Karachi reeling, its residents struggling to come to terms with the shattered lives and lost loved ones.
