KARACHI:

Measles outbreak in winter has sparked concerns among health experts.

Characterised by telltale symptoms such as runny nose, fever, cough, red eyes, and skin rashes, measles can prove deadly for vulnerable children who are malnourished, immunocompromised, or unvaccinated.

Doctors warned that the contagious disease was rapidly spreading from one child to another. Parents should vaccinate their children against measles between the age of nine months and one and a half years to protect them from this contagious disease.

The Sindh government provides free vaccination for the mentioned age group. Isolating the affected child and increasing vitamin A in one's diet can help reduce the severity of the disease. A single dose of vitamin A reduces the chances of death by 50 percent, but if the child is malnourished or has a weak physical condition, measles can be fatal. Health experts urged parents to consult a doctor immediately in case a child showed symptoms of measles.
