JARANWALA:

Agricultural scientists and experts must intensify their efforts to ensure food security amid a growing population, said University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) Vice Chancellor Dr Muhammad Sarwar Khan.

He was addressing officers of the Punjab Agriculture Department at the inaugural session of a four-week workshop titled "Finance, Administration Management, and E-Governance" organised by UAF's Professional Training and Skill Development Center (PTSDC).

The workshop, a mandatory programme for officer promotions, marks the 22nd of its kind. Dr Sarwar Khan emphasised the pressing challenges faced by the agricultural sector, including low productivity, water scarcity, and climate change.

He called on participants to adopt and promote modern agricultural practices within farming communities to enhance productivity and sustainability.

"The university is committed to addressing national agricultural challenges through innovative research, new crop varieties, outreach programs, and skilled manpower development," Dr Sarwar Khan said, adding that agriculture remains vital to the country's economic development.

PTSDC Director Dr Waqas Wakeel highlighted the centre's evolution since its inception in 1963, reaching its current status in 2023.
