Nutritious, affordable, peanuts remain favourite for all age groups

As winter tightens its grip across Pakistan, crunchy peanuts — an all-time favorite winter snack — are experiencing a surge in demand, especially in Sargodha.

Vendors and shopkeepers are witnessing brisk sales as the chilly evenings entice people to indulge in this seasonal delight.

Peanuts, often associated with warmth and cozy gatherings, have become a staple snack for families during gossip sessions or while watching TV.

From pushcarts to corner shops, vendors across the city are cashing in on the winter craze, offering freshly roasted peanuts to eager customers.

"There's no specific age group for peanut lovers," said Ghulam Rasool, a peanut vendor. "Children, youngsters, middle-aged, and elderly people all enjoy this snack. In chilly weather, hot and spicy peanuts are especially popular because they're affordable and comforting."

Shopkeepers are reporting record sales this season. A local trader shared that he sells up to 4,000 bags of peanuts per month during winter, attributing the high demand to the affordability and nutritional value of the snack.

Peanuts are not just a tasty treat but also a powerhouse of nutrients. Health experts highlight their benefits, noting that peanuts are rich in calcium, making them particularly beneficial for older individuals. Additionally, they contain Vitamin C and Vitamin E, which help prevent signs of aging, such as wrinkles.

The festive season further boosts the popularity of groundnuts, as families and friends gather to enjoy the seasonal treat. The streets of Sargodha are dotted with vendors serving hot peanuts from wooden carts, filling the air with their unmistakable aroma and drawing crowds of passers-by.
