Karachi Mayor, Murtaza Wahab, has expressed concern over the ongoing Red Line BRT project, calling it a source of embarrassment for the current government.
In a conversation with the media in Karachi, Murtaza Wahab explained that Trans Karachi is an independent company, and he is a member of its board.
"The Red Line is indeed an embarrassment for our government. I have shared this point several times in board meetings with government members. They were granted an NOC two years ago, and we must collaborate with the Water Board before starting any work."
Murtaza Wahab further commented on the city's water shortage, saying that while Karachi is facing a severe water crisis, members of a political party were wasting water on the streets.
"Political party members cut off the water connection to my office. The water supply from Keenjhar to Karachi is not unlimited. Karachi's demand is 1,100 million gallons, but we only receive 525 million gallons. I will explain in a press conference who brought in tankers during which tenure."
The Mayor also emphasized his efforts for the city's rights and betterment. "Not every road in the city belongs to KMC. Karachi has 106 major roads. We have requested the Chief Minister of Sindh for funds to construct these 106 roads. KMC has completed work on 80% of the roads, except for University Road.
In addition to the 106 roads, Nawa-e-Insaf’s people are responsible for 9 towns, not me. This is not my responsibility, but the Town Chairman's. Look at the condition of Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman’s UC. We have introduced the ADP scheme. Work is also underway on the internal roads of Orangi and Korangi."
