Five Indian soldiers were killed and five others injured when an army vehicle veered off course and plunged into a steep gorge in Poonch district of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), Indian media reported on Tuesday.
The vehicle, belonging to the 11 Madras Light Infantry (11 MLI), was en route from Nilam Headquarters to Balnoi Ghora Post when the accident occurred. The vehicle fell approximately 350 feet into the gorge near its destination.
The injured personnel were provided immediate medical assistance, and efforts were underway to evacuate them for further treatment.
This incident follows a similar one in November where an army personnel died and another was injured after their vehicle skidded off the road and fell into a gorge in the Rajouri district of IIOJK.
On November 4, near Badog village in Kalakote, Naik Badri Lal succumbed to injuries after the vehicle accident, while Sepoy Jai Prakash sustained critical injuries and was hospitalized.
Earlier, on November 2, a separate incident in IIOJK’s Reasi district claimed the lives of three people, including a woman and her 10-month-old son, after their car plunged into a deep gorge following a skid on a hilly road.
