Karachi's Sohrab Goth police have arrested three individuals, including a woman, her father, and her brother, in connection with the murder of her husband.

The victim, 28-year-old Shahid Ali, was reportedly strangled to death by his wife, Noor Sameena, who attempted to stage the crime as a suicide.

Police sources confirmed that the victim's body was found on December 22 in a residence in Scheme 33, Jamali Goth. Responding to a call, authorities arrived at the scene and transported the body to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for an autopsy.

Upon identification, the police recorded statements from Noor Sameena, but her account contradicted the evidence.

The woman claimed that she had found her husband’s body hanging from a ceiling fan upon waking up, and she immediately informed his brother. She also stated that she lowered the body herself and placed it on a chair. However, further investigation, including the post-mortem report, revealed inconsistencies in her story.

The post-mortem examination showed that Shahid Ali had been drugged, causing him to lose consciousness before he was strangled. Police later confirmed that Noor Sameena had carried out the murder with the help of her father, Mohammad Nadeem, and brother, Yameen.

The motive behind the crime appeared to be a long-standing desire for a divorce, which the victim had refused to grant.

Noor Sameena confessed to the crime, stating that she was in love with another man and had been seeking to end her marriage. She and her husband had argued the previous night, after which she planned and executed the murder with her family’s assistance.

Shahid Ali, an electrician and father of two, had been married to Noor Sameena for several years.

The police have now charged the suspects under Section 302/34 of the Pakistan Penal Code, and they are currently in custody as investigations continue. The case has been registered at the request of the victim’s brother.
