Kirsten Corley Bennett has filed for divorce from her husband, Chance the Rapper, whose legal name is Chancelor Bennett. The filing, made on Friday in Cook County, Illinois, comes eight months after the couple announced their separation, according to court records reviewed by USA TODAY.

The divorce filing follows their public separation announcement in April, shared in a joint statement on Chance’s Instagram Stories. The statement described their decision as amicable, expressing gratitude for their time together and requesting privacy during the transition. The couple also reaffirmed their commitment to co-parenting their two daughters, 9-year-old Kensli and 5-year-old Marli Grace.

Chance and Corley began their marital journey with a civil ceremony in Chicago on December 27, 2018, followed by a grand wedding in March 2019 at the Resort at Pelican Hill in Newport Beach, California. The star-studded event featured guests like Kim Kardashian, Kanye "Ye" West, Dave Chappelle, and Kirk Franklin, who performed at the ceremony, as reported by Paper City Magazine.

The couple’s story spans nearly two decades, beginning in 2003 when they first met as children. Chance recalled their meeting during an office party for his mother, where Corley performed a lip-synced routine as part of Destiny’s Child. He described the moment as unforgettable on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “I was locking eyes with the prettiest girl I had ever seen.”

As their relationship now concludes, the couple has emphasized their mutual focus on raising their daughters. Their nearly four-year marriage and shared history highlight a journey filled with public milestones and private challenges. Despite their separation, they remain united in co-parenting, marking a new chapter in their lives.
