Imran Khan will halt remittances if demands aren't met: Aleema Khan

PTI founder's sister says that party's political downfall was part of a 'London plan' aimed at dismantling it

Aleema Khan, sister of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, criticised the government, stating that her brother has warned of halting remittances if his two demands are not met.

In a media interview on Tuesday, she claimed that after the fall of the PTI government, millions of people in the country have fallen below the poverty line and are grappling with economic hardships. She added that overseas Pakistanis are ready to stop sending remittances to the country in protest.

“They [government] take their dollars abroad, while poor workers abroad send dollars back to Pakistan. You are running the country on those very dollars," she said, emphasising the importance of remittances.

Aleema mentioned that PTI's political downfall was part of a 'London plan' aimed at dismantling the party. She also condemned the violent crackdown on peaceful protests, stating she was an eyewitness to the brutalities, where innocent people were killed and wounded during the November 24 protests.

She recounted that 10 buildings were torched, and thousands were arrested, questioning the legitimacy of the government formed after the February 9 vote.

She further expressed that her brother is in considerable distress and would not stop until his demands are addressed. She called for the formation of a judicial commission comprising three senior Supreme Court judges to investigate the wrongful detentions of innocent prisoners.

Aleema reiterated that if the demands are not fulfilled, Imran will urge overseas Pakistanis to halt sending remittances back to the country.

"Overseas Pakistanis have contacted me, saying they are ready to stop sending money, but PTI members advised Imran Khan to wait, fearing damage to the country," she said.

Despite the pressure, she added, her brother remains focused on his concern for the country and is willing to wait a few more days before taking action.
