Most city areas go without water as crisis aggravate

KWSC promises resumption of supply by Thursday; sources doubt

Water crisis in the city continues as most parts of the metropolis go without water for 13 consecutive days on Monday.

Repair work on the water pipeline, damaged due to the Red Line project on University Road, has resumed and will continue until Wednesday night. Citizens are forced to purchase water from tanker mafia at exorbitantly high rates. Around 60 to 70 per cent of the city has been affected by the disruption in water supply.

The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) had planned to halt water supply from Monday, but reports indicate that the shutdown began in various areas as early as Sunday.

As per details, the Port City is facing one of the worst water crises in its history. The Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Red Line project has become a source of distress for the city, as utility lines are being damaged on frequent basis during its construction.

The KWSC has once again halted water supply to several areas and restarted the repair work. The Managing Director (MD) of KWSC, Salahuddin, stated that the repair work would be completed by Wednesday night, and water supply would resume from Thursday.

Water supply has been cut off in different areas and neighbourhoods of the city for the last 13 days.

The most affected areas include Korangi, Landhi, Shah Faisal Colony, Malir, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Johar, Old City Area, PIB Colony, Clifton, Defence, Bahadurabad, Tariq Road, and others, severely disrupting daily life. The KWSC officials have promised to restore water supply by Thursday.

However, highly reliable sources informed The Express Tribune that normal supply is unlikely before the intervening night of Friday and Saturday.
