PAKPATTAN:

A man killed his nine-month-pregnant wife by throwing her into a canal over suspicions of an affair, later staging a kidnapping to cover up the crime.

Police said Muhammad Ahmed, a resident of Shahid Nagar, confessed to killing his 27-year-old wife, Muqaddas Bibi, after police uncovered evidence contradicting his initial claims.

The body of the victim was recovered from the Pakpattan Canal near Jamal Chowk four days later, based on Ahmed's confession.

On December 8, Ahmed took Muqaddas Bibi, who was also the mother of a one and a half year old son, Saeed, under the pretense of getting her medicine. Instead, he led her to the canal, where he pushed her into the water, ending her life.

Returning home, he fabricated a story, claiming his wife had disappeared after he left her outside a medical store while he went inside.

Ahmed accused his wife of having an affair and alleged that her family supported her actions, further fuelling his staged drama.

The victim's brother, Ghulam Mustafa, reported her disappearance to the City police station.

The family, unconvinced by Ahmed's claims, insisted Muqaddas was a devoted housewife and mother who could not have acted as alleged.

Police investigators used evidence from Safe City cameras, which revealed inconsistencies in Ahmed's account.

Under custody, Ahmed admitted to his crime, providing details about how he carried out the murder.

Following Ahmed's confession, police, with assistance from Rescue 1122, recovered Muqaddas Bibi's body from the canal.

The remains were sent to the hospital for a postmortem examination.
