HYDERABAD:

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Sindh President of Nisar Ahmed Khuhro has warned that construction of six new canals on the Indus River will not only turn Sindh barren, but also create fissures in the federation.

Addressing the PPP's workers in Larkana district, he cautioned that such a move will trigger a clash between Sindh and Punjab provinces.

He reiterated that the PPP will continue to fight its case against the six canals on the platforms like Council of Common Interests (CCI), Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) and National Economic Council (NEC). "Sindh can never accept this project of building the six canals."

He went on to warn that if the centre and Punjab went ahead with constructing the canals the people of all parts of Sindh will take to streets in protest. "We want to clarify this to the federal government that Sindh won't tolerate the act of robbing its right over the Indus River."

Khuhro lamented that the government has so far not called a meeting of the CCI even though the contentious issue of building the canals has started to cause unrest among the people.
