Ariana Grande candidly reflected on her experiences during the Wicked press tour while speaking with Paul Mescal for Variety’s Actors on Actors. During the December 10 interview, Mescal observed the undeniable connection between Grande and her Wicked co-star Cynthia Erivo, stating, “You’re obviously in love with each other.”
Grande humorously responded, “We are horrible… insufferable… it’s bad,” acknowledging their intense camaraderie during the tour. She added, “I think we tried to keep the pressure out of the room, obviously, as much as possible.”
The Positions singer, who portrays Glinda in the upcoming Wicked film, described Erivo as “an absolute brilliant gift of a human being,” further emphasizing their close bond. Both actresses have previously spoken about their emotional moments on the press tour, even admitting to crying during interviews.
Fans have also taken notice of the duo’s chemistry, creating viral moments such as their “holding space” interactions and coining the term “Glicked” to celebrate the intersection of Grande’s Wicked and Mescal’s Gladiator projects. During the conversation, both stars embraced the fan-driven label, with Grande repeating, “We are Glicked.”
Reflecting on her role as Glinda, Grande shared insights into the dynamic between Glinda and Elphaba, portrayed by Erivo. “These women are both strong in very opposite yet similar ways, and I think they kind of recognize themselves in each other immediately,” she explained.
The Wicked movie, which has already generated immense buzz, is set to release in two parts, with the second installment expected to hit theaters in late 2025.
