The government has announced an increase in electricity prices by Rs0.20 per unit across the country, including Karachi, Express News reported on Wednesday.
The notification for the price hike was issued by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), confirming the adjustment for the first quarter of the current fiscal year.
According to the notification, the price hike will burden electricity consumers by an additional Rs1.187 billion. The increase will be effective for the month of December 2024.
However, the new rates will not apply to lifeline and prepaid electricity users. Similarly, the quarterly adjustment will not affect consumers using additional electricity under the Winter Package.
NEPRA further stated that the last quarter's adjustment, which was Rs1.74 per unit, was concluded in November.
