G-Unit Records rappers Uncle Murda and Tony Yayo have alleged that Sean "Diddy" Combs is behind the civil lawsuit recently filed against Jay-Z. The Roc Nation founder is facing accusations of rape, with an accuser alleging that both he and Diddy assaulted her when she was 13 years old at an MTV Video Music Awards afterparty in 2000. Jay-Z has strongly denied these claims.
On December 9, TMZ published an article detailing Tony Yayo and Uncle Murda’s claims that Diddy orchestrated the lawsuit against Jay-Z. Uncle Murda told the outlet: “I think Diddy paid somebody to say that s**t about Jay to get the heat off himself ‘cause Diddy looking bad out here. I think he trying to get the heat on Jay.”
Tony Yayo expressed the belief that the lawsuit against Jay-Z appears to be financially motivated, calling it a “money grab.” He said: “For somebody to extort you, send you a letter, and then you gotta send your lawyers, sounds like extortion to me.”
Tony Yayo, born Marvin Bernard, is best known as a member of the hip-hop group G-Unit, which he formed with 50 Cent and Lloyd Banks.
Uncle Murda, whose real name is Leanord Carl Grant, signed with G-Unit in 2016 after previously being affiliated with Jay-Z’s Roc-A-Fella Records.
The lawsuit claims that the alleged victim was assaulted at a house party, with an unnamed female celebrity present. Initially filed by lawyer Tony Buzbee, the original lawsuit listed Diddy as the sole defendant but was later amended to include Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter.
According to the accuser, identified as Jane Doe, she was asked to sign a document, believed to be a non-disclosure agreement, before entering the party. The lawsuit alleges that Combs said to her, “You are ready to party,” before the assaults occurred. Jane Doe claims Carter r*ped her first, followed by Combs, while the female celebrity watched.
Jay-Z, who is married to Beyoncé, has denied the accusations in a public statement:
“My only heartbreak is for my family. My wife and I will have to sit our children down, one of whom is at the age where her friends will surely see the press and ask questions about the nature of these claims, and explain the cruelty and greed of people. I mourn yet another loss of innocence.
“These allegations are so heinous in nature that I implore you to file a criminal complaint, not a civil one!! Whomever would commit such a crime against a minor should be locked away, would you not agree?”
Combs has also denied the allegations. He is currently awaiting trial in May 2025 on separate charges of sex trafficking and racketeering.
