Star Sports India has unveiled a promotional video for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy; however, there was no mention of the host country. The promo features clips from the T20 World Cup 2024 in its visuals and highlights.
Furthermore, no images or video footage of Pakistan's victory in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 have been included in the promotional content.
Despite no official schedule or confirmation from the International Cricket Council (ICC), the promo showcases some of the biggest names in world cricket, including Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Pat Cummins, and Mitchell Starc. The promo, which highlights the excitement of the upcoming tournament, does not mention the host nation, further fuelling speculation about the hybrid model.
The promo has sparked considerable debate in the cricket community, as the issue of where the tournament will be played has been a subject of controversy for months. The BCCI had earlier rejected the idea of travelling to Pakistan, which initially raised doubts about the tournament's future.
Earlier Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif commended Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi for his principled stance on hosting the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan, according to APP.
During a meeting at the premier’s residence on Sunday, Naqvi briefed the prime minister about recent developments regarding the tournament, scheduled to be held in February-March 2025.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has refused to send its team to Pakistan, citing the lack of a no-objection certificate (NOC) from the Indian government. Instead, the BCCI has proposed a hybrid model, suggesting Indian matches and the final be played in another country, such as the United Arab Emirates.
Previously the ICC deferred its crucial meeting regarding the Champions Trophy 2025, which was set to take place today on saturday, sources revealed.
The sources revealed that the meeting was postponed due to the lack of response by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to the demands put forward by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) over the long-standing dispute between the two sides regarding the venue of much-awaited Champions Trophy 2025.
PCB seeks written assurance from ICC on hybrid model for future events
Pakistan is set to host the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, but Indian media has reported that Pakistan has requested written assurances from the ICC regarding the hybrid model for the future tournament, according to Express News.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) is expected to make a final decision on Wednesday regarding the hosting and match arrangements.
According to Indian media reports, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has demanded a written guarantee from the ICC after discussions with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) regarding the hybrid model for future ICC events.
The hybrid model, which has already been agreed upon by Pakistan for the Champions Trophy, will see India's matches being played in Dubai, while the rest of the tournament will take place in Pakistan.
