A man was shot dead by an opponent in police custody in the Sessions Court premises on Monday. The shooting inside the Sessions Court caused a stampede among lawyers and citizens.
The accused surrendered and was shifted to the Civil Lines Police Station.
Upon receiving information, senior officers including the CPO, SSP Investigation, CTO and Crime Scene Unit reached the spot. The police and Crime Scene Unit collected evidence and shifted the body of the deceased to hospital for postmortem.
Imran Anwar, a resident of Chak 244 RB Wasiran, was being taken to the Sessions Court in the area of Civil Lines Police Station along with other accused from the District Jail to appear in the court of Additional and Sessions Judge Owais Ahmed.
When Imran reached the court of District Sessions Judge, an assailant Saqlain shot him dead in police custody. Imran sustained bullet in the head and died on the spot after succumbing to his injuries. The accused Saqlain threw his pistol and surrendered.
Police shifted the accused to the Civil Line police station.The firing in the session court spread panic among the lawyers and citizens and a stampede broke out.
CPO Faisalabad, DIG Kamran Adil, SSP Investigation Rana Abdul Wahab, CTO Farhan Aslam, DSP Civil Line Mian Amir Waheed and other senior police officers reached the spot.
