In an unusual and controversial twist, New Yorkers gathered in Washington Square Park on Friday for a "shooter look-alike contest" centered around the suspected killer of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.

The competition featured eight participants donning hooded jackets and face masks, mimicking the alleged assassin whose images have dominated headlines since Wednesday’s brazen Midtown murder.

The contest, which some described as tasteless, saw participants judged by onlookers’ cheers, with the winner receiving $50.

The champion, sporting a green jacket resembling the gunman’s attire, admitted, “I got no looks until I got over here, and now everyone wants a picture with me.”

“He’s the one,” an onlooker quipped, as the winner was introduced as “contestant number six.”

The peculiar event unfolded just days after Thompson was fatally shot outside a Midtown hotel as he walked to an investor event.

Authorities released surveillance footage showing the hooded gunman fleeing the scene, later seen boarding a bus out of the city.

The contest, coinciding with the ongoing manhunt, sparked mixed reactions. One participant added a satirical twist by firing a bubble gun while wearing a sign that read, “Deny Defend Depose”—a reference to the chilling words found scribbled on shell casings at the crime scene.

While some attendees found humor in the event, others criticized its insensitivity. “Bro, I don’t know if you all should be doing this—but your life choices, I guess,” shouted a spectator.

Brian Thompson’s murder has raised questions about corporate security and sparked debate over the strained relationship between Americans and the healthcare industry.

Mayor Eric Adams, addressing reporters at a separate event, assured the public that the investigation is advancing. “The net is tightening,” he stated, confirming that police have identified the suspect.
