An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Friday granted physical remand of a brother of Lyari gang war linchpin in an explosives case, to police until Dec 9. Zubair Baloch was presented before the court by police.
The investigating officer (IO) informed the court that Zubair was arrested for possessing explosives and illegal weapons. A hand grenade and a Kalashnikov assault rifle were allegedly recovered from a warehouse based on the suspect's identification. The IO sought a physical remand to facilitate further interrogation of the accused.
A case was registered against Zubair at Chakiwara police station.
Defence lawyer Farooq Haider Jatoi argued that the charges against his client were "false and baseless." He further argued that Zubair was arrested from his home after his release from prison. After hearing arguments from both sides, the court granted police physical remand of Zubair until Dec 9.
