After much anticipation, Allu Arjun's long-awaited film Pushpa 2: The Rule has made a thunderous debut at the box office, setting a new record for the biggest opening in Indian cinema history as the film earned a staggering ₹175.1 crore net on its first day, surpassing the previous record set by SS Rajamouli’s RRR.
A large portion of the film's earnings came from the Telugu version, which grossed ₹95.1 crore. The Hindi version also performed strongly, raking in ₹67 crore. The Tamil version contributed ₹7 crore, while Malayalam and Kannada versions earned ₹5 crore and ₹1 crore, respectively.
The Telugu version saw a remarkable 82.66% average occupancy for its shows, with night shows achieving an even more impressive 90.19%.
With earth-shattering numbers at the worldwide box office on day one, the film also becomes the biggest Indian opener globally by a large margin, overtaking RRR.
Combining both Indian and overseas earnings, Pushpa 2 amassed an astonishing ₹279.94 crore gross at the worldwide box office on day one. This marks a 25.53% higher collection compared to the opening day of RRR, which earned ₹223 crore.
Pushpa 2 continues the story of Pushpa Raj, played by Allu Arjun, with Rashmika Mandanna portraying Srivalli and Fahadh Faasil as Bhanu Singh Shekhawat. The film, directed by Sukumar, revolves around the illegal red sandalwood trade.
Experts predict that Pushpa 2 could surpass ₹250 crore by the end of the weekend. The film is already gaining immense popularity among audiences, not just for its compelling plot, but also for its action, music, and Allu Arjun's captivating performance.
