While the cause of his death remains undisclosed, his brother and bandmate, Martin Walker, confirmed the sad news on December 5 via Facebook.
In his post, Martin expressed deep sorrow while also offering thanks for the support from fans and friends.
“P&L everyone… My brother Reese G ThreePiece is officially no longer with us in physical form but he will always remain with us in our hearts and minds,” Martin wrote. He added, “I’m proud of my brother and what he contributed to my life, our family’s lives, our fans' lives, to Chicago music history and beyond. His powerful voice will forever be appreciated by people all over the world.” The post was accompanied by several images, including one of Reese on a hospital bed, a childhood photo with his family, and a 3Piece poster.
Reese G, born Maurice Walker, was a cornerstone of 3Piece, a group known for its smooth vocals and charismatic stage presence. The band debuted in the late 1990s with their album 'First Come First Served', which featured the hit single 'Ohh Ahh'.
The track became a staple on Chicago’s WGCI radio, staying on the air for a record 42 weeks. They followed up with the self-titled '3Piece' and 'Cap and Gown', which included fan favorites like 'I Want You' and 'Let’s Ride'. Their most recent album, 'L.O.V.E.', was released in 2023.
Throughout their career, Reese and 3Piece collaborated with high-profile artists such as Kanye West, Mary J. Blige, Omarion, and Jay-Z. Reese G’s unique voice and his contribution to the Chicago music scene will continue to resonate with fans around the world.
