Bill Lawrence, the creator of Scrubs, is currently developing a reboot of his popular sitcom at ABC. The new version is being produced by 20th Television, following the integration of ABC Studios into 20th TV under Disney’s recent restructuring. Although Lawrence is under an overall deal with Warner Bros. Television, the studio has allowed him to collaborate with his former partners on the Scrubs project.

While Lawrence is involved in the reboot's development, he will not serve as the showrunner if the project moves forward. As of now, there are no confirmed cast members or other deals in place.

Scrubs originally aired from 2001 to 2010, first on NBC for seven seasons and later on ABC for two more. The series, set in Sacred Heart Hospital, followed the lives of interns and hospital staff. The show, known for its quirky humor and dreamlike cutaway scenes narrated by Zach Braff’s character, J.D., received widespread critical acclaim and earned 17 Emmy nominations during its run.

Lawrence has continued his successful career with shows like Cougar Town, Ted Lasso, Shrinking, and Bad Monkey. His work on Ted Lasso, a critical hit on Apple TV+, has kept him in the spotlight, although in a recent interview, he humorously referenced Scrubs as a topic of conversation to avoid further questions about Ted Lasso's future.

Braff, who starred in Scrubs, expressed enthusiasm about returning for the reboot. He mentioned in October that he would love the opportunity to reunite with the cast for a limited number of episodes, calling it "a dream."

The future of the Scrubs reboot remains uncertain, but fans are excited about the possibility of a return to Sacred Heart Hospital.
