Kmart recalls Christmas duvet, quilt sets in NZ and Australia after hospitalisations

Refunds offered for recalled Christmas duvet sets that had a strong, diesel-like smell and caused health issues

Two Australian women were hospitalised after exposure to Kmart's Christmas-themed quilts, and now Kmart is recalling its Christmas-themed duvet sets sold in New Zealand and Australian.

The recall involves two products: the Mr & Mrs Claus Reversible Queen Size Bed Quilt Cover Set and the Christmas Elf Reversible Single Bed Quilt Cover Set, both produced by Kmart’s brand Anko.

These products have been linked to incidents where customers experienced health issues such as dizziness, tingling down the arms, and inflammation of the lungs.

One woman, who used the Mr & Mrs Claus duvet cover, spoke to the Australian news program A Current Affair about her experience. She described feeling as though she were having a heart attack after using the blanket, reporting symptoms of dizziness and tingling, followed by inflamed lungs.

She also noted that the quilt emitted a strong, diesel-like smell. Other customers have come forward with similar concerns.

A Facebook user from Perth posted a warning, explaining that a friend had been hospitalized after experiencing respiratory and heart issues shortly after using the duvet set.

In response to these reports, Kmart has taken swift action. The company has issued a recall in both Australia and New Zealand, encouraging customers to return the affected duvet sets to stores for a full refund.

Kmart has reassured customers that it takes the safety and quality of its products seriously and is committed to addressing any customer product satisfaction issues.

A spokesperson stated that regardless of whether customers have experienced any issues with the products, they may return them for a refund.

The recall was prompted by concerns raised about the safety of these products, which have been on sale since October.

Kmart has removed the duvet sets from its website, and customers are being urged to contact Kmart Customer Service at 0800 945 995 if they have any further questions or concerns.

While some customers have reported the duvet sets emitting a gas-like smell, others have reported skin reactions.

One mother from a popular Facebook group, Kmart Mums NZ, mentioned that her child developed a rash that disappeared once the product was no longer in use.
