The union’s demands include a $75,000 wage floor, 8% annual raises, and a 15% minimum increase in promotion salaries, along with overtime and weekend pay. Forbes management, however, has only proposed a $60,000 starting salary, 1% annual raises, and a 5% promotion increase.
The union accused Forbes management of stalling negotiations for nearly three years and using illegal tactics to delay a fair agreement. One employee took to social media to voice frustration over the slow pace, saying that the situation was not only disrespectful but was also leading to public embarrassment for the company.
Andrea Murphy, Forbes Union chair and statistics editor, emphasized that the proposed salaries were unfair, given the work staff members put into their roles. Forbes responded by expressing disappointment over the walkout but reiterated its commitment to continuing negotiations with the union and maintaining operations.
