A fire that broke out at Rimpa Plaza on M.A. Jinnah Road in Karachi has been doused by firefighters after hours of struggle, Express News reported on Tuesday.
According to Rescue 1122, fire and rescue personnel, along with two ambulances, four fire trucks, and a snorkel, were quickly dispatched to the scene upon receiving the alarm.
The blaze started on the fourth floor, which houses various spare parts godowns, offices, and shops, including a clinic.
Rescue officials noted that the building's poor ventilation made it challenging to evacuate smoke, complicating firefighting efforts.
To contain the fire, additional fire tenders were called, and foam was used to help suppress the flames. Glass panels of the building were broken to facilitate better access for the firefighting teams.
The authorities confirmed that all individuals inside the building were safely evacuated.
A Pakistan Navy team joined the rescue operation, strengthening the firefighting efforts. To ensure an uninterrupted water supply, an emergency was declared at the NIPA hydrant, with water tankers dispatched to the site. The water supply will continue until the fire is fully under control.
Meanwhile, the Karachi Traffic Police closed M.A. Jinnah Road near Saeed Manzil due to the fire, diverting traffic towards Regal Chowk and Gul Plaza.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah took notice of the fire, directing immediate action to extinguish the blaze. He also requested a detailed report from Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi.
