KARACHI:

The decapitated head and remains found separately in a nullah and garbage dump in Orangi have been identified as that of 28-year-old Kulsoom Khan, second wife of Muhammad Hanif, a rickshaw driver.

Hanif told police on Monday that Kulsoom had left home at 10pm on Friday to meet her cousin, and after two hours her phone was powered off.

Hanif has yet to explain why he did not file a missing report earlier.

He told the police that he recognised the head while watching a Facebook reel of Chhipa volunteers recovering it from the nullah.

The blood curdling episode of dismembered human parts popping up had caused fear in the area.

Panic gripped the area around Qasba Colony Paracha Cemetery, Orangi Town after human organs were found in a garbage dump.

Was there a maniac killer on the loose in Qasba Colony, panicked locals were asking each other after blood soaked human limbs and entrails were found a few days after a woman's severed head was found floating in the Orangi Nullah.

Upon receiving reports, police rushed to the scene and summoned the Crime Scene Unit to collect evidence. The human remains were subsequently taken into custody and transported to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for a post-mortem examination.

According to police officials, the human remains found in the garbage dump include a pair of legs, hands, and intestines.Yesterday, human parts were found in another corner of the same cemetery. The latest discovery of human remains in the same cemetery has raised more questions than answers.

Police officials have stated that due to decomposition it is hard to tell whether the remains belong to a male or female. The remains appear to be several days old, with visible signs of blood accumulation.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the remains may have been stored in a cold environment before being discarded in the garbage dump adjacent to the cemetery. Furthermore, police officials have revealed that there was a name tattoo on one of the arms, but that too was not legible.

The police have a suspicion that a maniac may be involved in the incident and have initiated an investigation, which is being conducted in accordance with the evidence collected thus far.

However, the severed head of an unknown woman was also found two days prior in a dry drain in another part of the same cemetery, resulting in a state of panic in the area.

Police had registered a case 622/24 on state's complaint against an unknown accused under the section of murder in the incident of decapitation of an unknown woman and launched an investigation, police said.
