KARACHI:

Leader of the Opposition in the Sindh Assembly Ali Khursheedi has said that due to the poor performance of the PPP, the once glorious Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) has turned into a referral centre. He alleged that in the last 16 years, the PPP has only done marketing in Karachi, while the Mayor of Karachi is busy putting up posters on the roads.

He expressed these views at a ceremony organised on the completion of 50 years of Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, in which in addition to Opposition Leader in the Sindh Assembly, Member of the National Assembly Nighat Shakeel and other leaders participated.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ali Khursheedi said that Abbasi Shaheed Hospital provided free quality treatment to patients from Karachi, Pakistan and Afghanistan in the last five decades. The hospital was equipped with modern facilities but it has deteriorated due to the poor performance of the Sindh government in the last 16 years.

He added that the construction of a new hospital building was announced in 2013, which has not been completed yet.

Khursheedi also mentioned the poor condition of Karachi's infrastructure, adding that the mayor only puts up signs on the roads of Karachi. He demanded that the city gets an independent and empowered mayor who can find solutions to problems.

He stated that a draft for reforms in the local government system has been submitted to the National Assembly and efforts are being made to bring all political parties on the same page. MNA Nighat Shakeel said in her address said that Abbasi Shaheed Hospital was close to her heart, because she started her house job here.
