Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called his Malaysian counterpart, Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim, to express his deepest condolences over the devastating floods that have recently hit several states of Malaysia, causing significant loss of life and property.
In his message, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif assured the Malaysian Prime Minister that the people of Pakistan stand in solidarity with their Malaysian brothers and sisters during this difficult time.
He commended the Malaysian government for its swift and effective response to the natural disaster.
Offering support in the wake of the calamity, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that Pakistan would send immediate humanitarian assistance to Malaysia as a token of solidarity and support for the affected communities.
Additionally, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the ongoing positive trajectory of bilateral relations between Pakistan and Malaysia, and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to further strengthening cooperation in all areas of mutual interest.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s support and agreed that both countries must continue working together to advance relations across all significant sectors.
Both leaders also discussed the continuation of high-level visits between the two nations, with plans for visits by Pakistan’s Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister to Kuala Lumpur early next year.
More than 37,000 people across six Malaysian states have been displaced due to severe flooding caused by torrential rains this week, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said on November 28.
Speaking in parliament, Anwar confirmed that 322 temporary shelters had been set up in Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah, Perlis, Johor, and Perak states to house those affected.
Kelantan, a northeastern state bordering Thailand, has been the hardest hit, with 30,582 people from 9,223 families displaced.
