The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has forecasted that a new western wave will bring heavy rainfall, snowfall, and smog across Pakistan, Express News reported on Thursday.
According to a statement from the NDMA, the western disturbance is expected to affect the country’s western regions starting today, with a significant impact on various areas.
The forecast predicts thunderstorms, heavy rains, and snowfall in mountainous areas, particularly in the western and upper parts of the country. The Pothohar region and its surrounding areas are also likely to experience rain accompanied by thunder and lightning.
The upper regions of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, including the Malakand and Hazara divisions, are expected to face rainfall, thunder, and snow in the higher altitudes.
In contrast, the plains of Punjab will experience generally dry weather in the morning and night, but smog and fog are expected to persist. Local authorities have advised residents to remain cautious and adopt necessary safety measures in light of these weather conditions.
The NDMA spokesperson cautioned residents of northern and hilly areas to be extra cautious while travelling on slippery roads. Farmers have also been urged to protect their crops from potential weather impacts.
In smog-affected areas, the public has been advised to limit outdoor activities and prioritise safety measures due to reduced visibility.
The NDMA continues to monitor the situation and has urged citizens to stay informed and take appropriate precautions as the weather front moves through the country.
