R&B singer Trey Songz, whose real name is Tremaine Neverson, has been ordered to pay over $11 million in connection with a battery lawsuit filed against him following an alleged attack in Las Vegas.

The incident, which occurred at The Cosmopolitan hotel on November 28, 2021, involved Neverson and his security personnel allegedly assaulting a man, Tyrelle Dunn, who was trying to rescue his wife. She had reportedly been held against her will by Neverson’s security.

Dunn, a Maryland Capitol police officer, filed the lawsuit accusing Neverson and his security of battery, assault, and negligence. According to the complaint, Dunn’s wife was escorted to a hotel room, where she was assaulted, had her phone taken, and was prevented from leaving. When Dunn arrived at the scene, having heard his wife’s screams for help, he was attacked by the group. Dunn suffered severe injuries, including fractures to both eye sockets and damage to his face, ribs, stomach, ear, and head. He missed more than a month of work due to his injuries.

911 calls obtained from hotel security revealed the chaos that unfolded in the hotel room. One call described Dunn as "really beat," with the hotel workers unsure of the situation inside the room, as they were concerned about possible weapons. Additional reports mentioned a woman claiming sexual assault while security awaited police assistance.

Despite an investigation by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, no criminal charges were filed against Neverson, who had not been arrested or charged in connection with the incident. However, in October 2023, Clark County District Court Judge Jacob Reynolds entered a judgment against Neverson, ordering him to pay $11.2 million in damages. This amount included medical expenses, pain and suffering, punitive damages, and prejudgment interest. The lawsuit also named The Cosmopolitan as a defendant, though Neverson did not respond to the legal proceedings after being served with summons in August 2023.

At 39 years old, Neverson has faced multiple legal issues over the years, including accusations of sexual and physical assault. In 2023, a woman filed a lawsuit alleging he exposed her breast during an event in Connecticut in 2013. Another woman accused him of sexual assault in 2016 at his home. In both cases, the women claimed they were humiliated and assaulted by the singer. The latter woman also stated that Neverson created an environment of fear when they encountered each other at public events.

In addition to these incidents, Neverson has faced accusations of sexual assault at a Miami nightclub in 2020 and physical violence during a concert in Michigan in 2018. His past behavior has included public outbursts and derogatory remarks toward law enforcement, further adding to his controversial reputation.

Despite the legal troubles and public scrutiny, Neverson continues to perform. He is part of the upcoming The Millennium Tour, scheduled for a stop at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas in April 2025.
