City grapples with violence, tragedies

Six bodies found in different parts of provincial capital

A series of grim events over the past week has highlighted Lahore's ongoing struggles with violence, negligence, and tragic accidents.

From the recovery of unidentified bodies to fatal altercations and accidents, the city's residents are reeling from the troubling incidents.

On November 20, the Edhi Foundation reported the recovery of six bodies, including a newborn, from different parts of Lahore.

In Nishtar Colony, a 50-year-old man named Javed Aslam was found dead in his car, reportedly from a drug overdose. The discovery of a newborn's body in Factory Area sent shockwaves through the local community.

In Shadman, a 45-year-old man found unconscious succumbed to his condition during treatment.

Kot Lakhpat police recovered the body of an unidentified 40-year-old man from a roadside, while another unidentified man, around 50 years old, was found dead near Moon Market in Gulshan Ravi.

At Data Darbar, a 65-year-old man was discovered deceased near Gate 5.

Police investigations are ongoing, and the unidentified bodies have been moved to a morgue. In Defence C, Phase 6, a tragic accident occurred on November 19 when an intoxicated motorcyclist caused a collision.

Afzal Ali, 38, lost control of his motorcycle while riding with his family. His 11-year-old son, Naseer, died on the spot, while his wife and three other children sustained serious injuries and were hospitalised.

The incident serves as a grim reminder of the dangers of driving under the influence.

On November 18, a three-year-old boy, Basim, fell into an open manhole at Lahore's Children's Hospital while playing in the park. He tragically lost his life, raising concerns about public infrastructure negligence.

The city also witnessed domestic tragedies during the week. In Nawan Kot, 40-year-old Faqeer Hussain died by suicide after prolonged family struggles.

In Shafiqabad, Mudassir was arrested for allegedly strangling his wife, Ayesha, following years of domestic abuse. In a shocking kidnapping case, Race Course police rescued Naeem Sajid on November 15 and arrested his abductors, including his brother Waqas.

The perpetrators had demanded Rs2.1 million in ransom, which was recovered. Investigations revealed the involvement of three police officials and a Special Branch member, with FIRs filed and further inquiries underway.

On November 14, a 50-year-old woman named Nighat was killed in Manawan during a violent altercation with neighbours over personal grievances.

Unidentified bodies were also recovered that day from Garden Town, Kot Lakhpat, and Qila Gujjar Singh under mysterious circumstances.

On November 12, a speeding vehicle struck a group of stranded passengers on Ring Road, killing two and injuring six. Same day, a woman in Liaqatabad was fatally shot by her cousin over a marriage dispute.
