After years of demand, final approval has been granted for the Adiala Road Overhead Bridge project, which is estimated to cost Rs1.88 billion.
According to sources, the state-of-the-art project is expected to be completed within one and a half years.
The surrounding areas will be beautified, and the cultural heritage of the Potohar region will be highlighted as part of the project.
Adiala Road has become one of the busiest routes due to VIP movements and its proximity to the jail. Traffic congestion is a persistent issue, but the construction of the overhead bridge is expected to streamline traffic flow.
The bridge will feature computerised LCD lights and LED advertising boards.
The Chairman of the District Development Committee, MNA Engineer Qamarul Islam, stated that the funds for the overhead bridge have already been released, and the project contract has been awarded.
He also said that two new hospitals, each with 100 beds, are nearing completion in Rawat and Chakri.
These hospitals are expected to become operational in the first quarter of the new year, reducing the burden on allied hospitals and providing timely treatment to traffic accident victims due to their proximity to the GT Road and the motorway.
PML-N district leader Raja Ilyas Kayani said that the completion of the overhead bridge would alleviate the travel difficulties faced by Adiala Road residents, significantly reducing travel time from hours to minutes.
Work on the road extension and construction from Gorakhpur to Khawaja Corporation is ongoing, while the road from Girja to Thallian is also being repaired.
Engineer Qamarul Islam Raja said that Rs30.5 billion had been approved by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif for the roads in NA-53. Construction is already underway on several roads, with work on others starting soon.
New gas pipelines are being laid to ensure consistent gas pressure for the residents of Chak Jalal Din and Adiala Road. Additionally, a Rescue 1122 building in Jaurian, located on Chak Beli Khan Road, is nearing completion.
