The I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! camp is full of behind-the-scenes secrets, many of which viewers are unaware of, despite the show’s long-standing popularity. As the 2024 series continues with stars like Coleen Rooney, Tulisa, and Danny Jones, the hidden aspects of camp life are gaining attention.
One of the most intriguing details is the red socks worn by campmates, which aren’t just for matching the uniform. Former show medic Bob McCarron revealed to Woman's Own that the red socks are designed to hide blood splatters from leeches and other blood-sucking critters that infest the camp. "The red socks help cover up any marks left by the leeches," McCarron explained.
Another surprising fact is that each campmate is allowed to bring only three sets of underwear and swimwear, with everything else provided. The show’s co-creator, Natalka Znak, originally wanted each participant to bring just one pair of underwear, which they would be required to wash daily. "In the end, after months of discussion, we settled on three pairs each," Znak shared with Radio Times.
The jungle shower, an essential for personal hygiene, has also raised eyebrows over the years. Medic Bob emphasized the importance of using it regularly, particularly to avoid the growth of fungus on certain body parts, which is a common issue, especially for women. "I've been instructing them to use the shower more often," he said during an interview on Extra Camp.
Despite the show’s portrayal of a rustic, authentic camp, much of the jungle setting is staged. The waterfall and rocks are man-made, and certain tasks, such as gathering firewood, are pre-prepared by the crew.
