Universal Pictures has released the highly anticipated teaser trailer for its live-action adaptation of How to Train Your Dragon. Directed by franchise veteran Dean DeBlois, the film reimagines the 2010 animated hit that became a global phenomenon. Starring Mason Thames as Hiccup and Nico Parker as Astrid, the movie is a shot-for-shot remake of the original, set to release on June 13, 2025.
The teaser showcases the iconic story of a young Viking, Hiccup, who defies his tribe's dragon-hunting traditions by befriending a dragon named Toothless. Gerard Butler reprises his role as Stoick the Vast, delivering a poignant line from the trailer: “But you will,” in response to Hiccup’s hesitation about slaying dragons. The movie’s cast also includes Julian Dennison, Ruth Codd, and Jack Black as the fan-favorite Steve.
DeBlois’ live-action adaptation remains grounded in the "vanilla Minecraft" vision of the original story while introducing a tangible, physical depiction of the beloved characters and settings. With the animated franchise garnering four Oscar nominations and over $1.6 billion at the global box office, this live-action reimagining promises to captivate both new and nostalgic audiences. Fans can expect a fresh perspective on this timeless tale when it hits theaters next summer.
