Tesla CEO Elon Musk stirred controversy online following the crowning of Victoria Kjaer Theilvig of Denmark as Miss Universe 2024.
Musk took to the platform X (formerly Twitter) to share a sarcastic post celebrating the pageant’s decision to crown a biological woman amidst debates over inclusivity. “Breaking: Internet stunned after an attractive biological female human of healthy weight wins Miss Universe pageant.”

The 21-year-old Theilvig, the first Danish woman to win the title, bested 120 contestants in a competition seen as more traditional than last year’s event, which prominently featured plus-size, married, and transgender participants.
The pageant had gained particular attention in recent years for its inclusivity, especially after transgender Miss Netherlands Rikkie Valerie Kolle competed in 2023.
The 2024 event marked a shift in public perception, and Musk's post further fueled discourse on the topic.
Critics of the pageant have argued it strayed from its inclusive values by crowning a biological female, despite having been acquired by Thai media mogul and transgender advocate Anne Jakapong Jakrajutatip.
Social media erupted with mixed reactions to both the pageant and Musk's commentary. One user noted, “Yes, an actual white biological female won the pageant – the world is healing.” Another remarked, “Oh look! A woman won Miss Universe this year!”
This year’s winner, Theilvig, has yet to comment on the discussions surrounding her victory. Musk's critique adds another layer to the growing conversation about beauty standards and inclusivity in global events like Miss Universe.
