Rapper Chief Keef returns to Chicago after 10 years, performs with son: 'I do this for them'

After a decade away, Chief Keef returns to Chicago, sharing the stage and heartfelt moments with his son.

Chief Keef’s long-awaited return to Chicago became an emotional and unforgettable moment, blending his artistry and fatherhood into a powerful homecoming. 

Performing at the 2024 Lyrical Lemonade Summer Smash, the drill music pioneer—real name Keith Farrelle Cozart—stepped onto the stage after more than ten years away from his hometown. 

The crowd erupted in cheers as Chief Keef appeared, hand in hand with his young son, Krüe Karter Cozart. With a microphone in hand, Krüe exuded excitement, joining his father in front of thousands of fans. 

Together, they performed a snippet of one of Chief Keef’s iconic tracks, showcasing a playful and tender chemistry that offered fans a glimpse of the rapper’s softer side. “I do this for them,” he told the crowd, his words resonating with emotional weight.  

This performance marked more than just a return to the city that launched Chief Keef’s career—it symbolized a reconciliation with Chicago, a place intertwined with his legacy and controversies. 

Throughout his set, Chief Keef brought more of his children on stage, radiating pride and joy in each interaction. Krüe’s charismatic presence stole the show as he mimicked his dad’s moves, proving the spotlight runs in the family.  

As a father of nine, Chief Keef has largely kept his family life private, but moments like these show his evolving priorities.

The performance also highlighted Chief Keef’s enduring influence on hip-hop. From his breakout hits “I Don’t Like” and “Love Sosa” to his 2023 album *Almighty So 2*, his music has defined drill music and Chicago’s place in the genre. 

His Summer Smash setlist reflected his journey, blending fan-favorite classics with newer tracks, but the highlight remained his heartfelt moments with his son.  

The night also included a heartwarming encounter with a police officer after the show. The officer stopped Chief Keef for a quick FaceTime with her son, a fan who was playing video games at the time.
