The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) has seized drugs worth over Rs4.2 million across the country in a series of anti-smuggling operations.
According to an official spokesperson, the ANF's crackdown on drug smuggling in educational institutions and various cities across the country continues.
In these operations, 13 suspects were arrested, and 37 kilograms of drugs were seized, with a total value exceeding Rs4.2 million.
The ANF recovered 90 grams of hashish from a suspect near a university in Islamabad. During interrogation, the suspect admitted to selling drugs to students in educational institutions, Express News reported.
Additionally, in Mansehra, 8 kilograms of hashish were seized from the hidden compartments of a car on the GT Road, and the suspect was arrested. In another operation near Burhan Interchange, Attock, two suspects were caught with 4.4 kilograms of hashish. Another 7 kilograms of hashish were seized from a vehicle near a hotel in Mansehra.
In Sargodha, near University Road, 5 kilograms of hashish were seized from two suspects. In Gujrat, 3.6 kilograms of hashish and 1 kilogram of crystal meth were recovered from a truck, and the suspect was arrested.
At the M1 toll plaza near Islamabad, two suspects were arrested with 4.1 kilograms of hashish and 1 kilogram of opium. In Sialkot, one kilogram of opium and 100 grams of crystal meth were recovered from a suspect on Wazirabad Road. In DG Khan, one kilogram of crystal meth was seized from a suspect near Sakhisar Road.
In Peshawar, a kilo of crystal meth was recovered from an abandoned car near Hayatabad. Additionally, 465 grams of crystal meth were seized from a suspect near Multan’s Muzaffargarh Road.
Cases have been registered against the arrested suspects under the Anti-Narcotics Act, and investigations are underway.
Over 1,000 addicts sent to rehab in a week
An alarming trend has been observed during the Drug-Free Peshawar Campaign as a growing number of women and children are among the addicts taken into custody.
During the ongoing anti-drug campaign, 19 children and 11 women have been taken into custody. So far, over 1,000 individuals addicted to drugs have been detained and transferred to rehabilitation centres.
Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Secretary Nadeem Aslam Chaudhry visited the Peshawar Deputy Commissioner's Drug Control Room, where he received a briefing on the campaign.
Peshawar Division Commissioner Riaz Khan Mehsud and Deputy Commissioner Peshawar Sarmad Saleem Akram shared updates on the campaign's progress and results.
To date, 1,021 drug addicts have been transferred to rehabilitation centers from various areas of Peshawar, including 19 children and 11 women. Currently, eight rehabilitation centres are operational in Peshawar, where treatment is being provided using standard methods.
