Mercy Sunot, a longtime vocalist of the rock band Aegis, passed away on November 18, 2024, at the age of 48. While the official cause of her death has not been confirmed, she was battling breast and lung cancer and underwent lung surgery a day prior to her passing.  

In a TikTok video, she shared details about her health struggles, mentioning issues with breathing that required immediate ICU admission. Her lungs were reportedly filled with fluid and inflamed, according to Billboard Philippines.  

Apart from Mercy, Aegis members include Juliet Sunot, Ken Sunot, Rey Abenoja, Stella Pabico, Rowena Adriano, and Vilma Goloviogo. The band expressed their sorrow in a heartfelt post on their official Facebook page, accompanied by a black-and-white photo of Mercy.  

The post praised Mercy’s resilience, stating: "Mercy's voice wasn't just a part of AEGIS – it was a voice that brought comfort, joy, and strength to so many. She has touched countless lives, inspiring fans and lifting spirits with every song she sang. Her passion, warmth, and unforgettable presence on stage will forever be cherished in our hearts."  

The post concluded: "Let us come together to celebrate the incredible life she lived and the legacy she leaves behind. Mercy, thank you for the music, the love, and the memories. You will be deeply missed."

Fans flooded the comment section with tributes, many noting how Aegis’ music had deeply impacted their lives and become a symbol for Filipinos.  

Aegis garnered a significant following over the years for their contributions to the music industry. According to AG's Talent Development and Management Services bio, the band was formed when members from different groups merged.  

Initially known as AG's Sound Trippers, named after their manager’s company, the group later adopted the name Aegis, which means "Shield" or "Protection" in Greek mythology, referencing Zeus.
