Conan O'Brien recalls Robin Williams gifting him a custom bike and support after his 'Tonight Show' departure.

Conan O'Brien has shared a heartwarming story about Robin Williams offering him support during one of the toughest times in his career. 

Speaking on his Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend podcast, O'Brien recounted how Williams reached out after his abrupt 2010 ouster from The Tonight Show. The late actor not only called to check on O'Brien but also gifted him a custom-made bike, painted in vibrant Irish colors, to lift his spirits.

“I don’t even know how he got my phone number,” O'Brien said, recalling Williams telling him, “You’re gonna be fine, you’re gonna be great.” Williams had arranged for the bike to be ready at a shop in Santa Monica, urging O’Brien to take it for a ride to feel better. “It was the ugliest—greens and shamrocks everywhere—but I loved it,” O’Brien said.

The story underscores Williams' reputation for generosity and empathy, with guest Eric Idle describing the gesture as "fantastically typical Robin." O'Brien’s tumultuous Tonight Show tenure, lasting only seven months, was followed by a successful run with Conan on TBS. His reflections highlight the enduring kindness of Williams, who O’Brien credits with helping him navigate a difficult time.
