A remote-controlled bomb explosion near Maulana Shehzada Wazir Mosque in the Azam Warsak Bazaar of Bermal tehsil in South Waziristan has claimed the lives of two individuals, and left five others injured, according to hospital sources.
Among the deceased are Maulana Mufti Ejaz and a woman. The explosion severely injured the mosque's administrator, Maulana Shehzada Wazir. Hospital sources have reported that several of the injured are in critical condition, and have been referred to Dera Ismail Khan.
Operations on other injured individuals are ongoing at the DHQ Hospital in Wana. According to DMS Dr Fazlur Rahman, an emergency has been declared in the hospital, and there is an urgent need for blood donations.
It is reported that unidentified individuals planted the IED bomb. Police have started investigating the incident. According to police sources, the tragic event occurred within the jurisdiction of Azam Warsak police station.
Local political and social leaders have expressed deep sorrow and strongly condemned the incident. It is noteworthy that members of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) were among the injured. A large number of JUI-F workers are present in the hospital with the injured. Reports indicate that South Waziristan JUI-F General Secretary Maulana Rafiuddin has also arrived at the medical facility.
