KARACHI:

Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi staged a protest on Sharae Faisal against the Pakistan People Party government over rigging in by-polls.

A large number of protesters foiled the attempts by police to sabotage the protest on Friday.

JI Karachi Ameer Monem Zafar addressed the protest demonstration, following a press conference held at Idara Noor-e-Haq, the JI Karachi headquarters.

Speaking on the occasion, Monem Zafar said that the PPP has proven once again that it believes in fascism, mandate theft, hooliganism, undemocratic and unfair means by changing the results of the by-elections.

Once again, the form 11, 12 and 13 were tempered by corrupt officials on the behest of the PPP to bring them an undue victory that they never had, said Zafar.

He also held the Election Commission of Pakistan as equally responsible and hands in gloves with the PPP.

He said that JI had won UC 7 of Model Town in the last elections with 4400 votes and the PPP bagged 8th position on the score board with only 650 votes. Similarly, he said, in the last general elections, the JI had received over 24,000 votes from the constituency that encompasses the UC against 1836 votes by the PPP.

He alleged that in the by-polls, the results of the UC were put on hold for eight hours and later the PPP results were changed from 1086 to 4362, whereas the JI's results were changed from over 3000 to 2415.

The JI leader blamed the PPP, the ECP and the law enforcement agencies responsible for changing the results. Monem Zafar said that in UC 7 in Korangi the last LG polls, the JI's candidate from the ward 1 area bagged 1150 votes against 77 votes by the PPP candidate.
